Tokara is the one South African producer to be included on the 50 Nice White Wines of the World 2022 listing.
The family-owned wine property in Stellenbosch acquired a rating of 94/100 for the Tokara Director’s Reserve White 2018, a wine, says the property, that represents precisely what it stands for – refinement, magnificence and steadiness.
It has a Platter five-star score and is a Decanter World Wine Awards gold medallist.
Tokara Director’s Reserve White 2018 is a mix of Sauvignon Blanc (63%) and Semillon (37%), and the grapes are grown on the best slopes of the Simonsberg foothills. Look out for notes of gooseberry and pink grapefruit, in addition to hints of lemon grass and flippantly toasted almonds.
The 50 Nice White Wines of the World is held yearly by Wine Pleasures, based mostly in Barcelona, Spain. Wine Pleasures additionally holds 50 Nice Glowing Wines and 50 Nice Pink Wines of the World.
The five-person judging panel tasted wines from South Africa, Australia, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Moldova, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain. Solely excellent wines make it to the highest of the listing. It’s a blind tasting, with the crew conscious solely of the grape varieties, area, nation, degree of sweetness and time in oak.
